Regen Brake Setup (Separate Pedal or Thumb Throttle)
Requires ChargedUp Regen Brake Cable β Separate Input for ADC2
β Required Hardware
To use a separate brake pedal or thumb throttle for regen braking, you must use this cable:
π ChargedUp Regen Brake Cable:
https://chargedup3d.com/products/75100-v2-regen-brake-cable
This cable splits the throttle input into two ADC channels (ADC1 = throttle, ADC2 = regen brake).
Step 1 β Identify the Correct Connectors
The regen brake cable has two throttle connectors:
Connector 1 β Regular Throttle (ADC1)
- Wires: Black / White / Red
- This connects to your main throttle pedal on the kart.
Connector 2 β Regen Brake Throttle (ADC2)
- Wires: Contains BLUE wire
- The one with the blue wire is your regen throttle input (ADC2).
- This connects to your separate brake pedal or thumb throttle.
Make sure both connectors are plugged in properly before continuing.
Step 2 β Connect to Your VESC
- Turn ON your kart / VESC.
- Open the VESC Tool App.
- Tap CONNECT to connect to your VESC.
Step 3 β Enter Input Setup
- Go to the Start tab.
- Tap Setup Input.
- When prompted, choose ADC Input.
You should now see two bars on the screen:
- Top Bar β ADC1 (Throttle Pedal)
- Bottom Bar β ADC2 (Regen Brake Throttle)
Step 4 β Calibrate Both Throttles
- Press your main throttle a few times β release it.
- Press your regen brake throttle a few times β release it.
- Tap Apply & Write.
- Press both throttles again to confirm the bars fill their full range.
- Tap Next.
Step 5 β Set Control Type for Two-Throttle Operation
- Change Control Type to:
Current No Reverse Brake ADC2
ADC1 = main throttle
ADC2 = regen brake pedal / thumb throttle - Disable Safe Start.
- Tap Write Configuration.
- Tap Next.
Step 6 β Set Regen Braking Strength (Profiles Tab)
Regen braking force is controlled through motor scaling:
- Scroll to the Profiles tab.
- Tap Add Profile.
- Set Motor Current Scale to 5β15% to start.
Higher % = stronger regen braking
Start low to avoid overly aggressive braking - Save the profile.
- Tap Use Permanently so the regen profile stays active.
Step 7 β Verify Battery Regen Safety Limits
Battery Current Regen Max MUST be set correctly or you can damage your battery.
Go to:
Motor CFG β General (Current Mode)
Check:
Battery Current Regen Max = ~ -5A (safe for most packs)
If unsure:
π Refer to the Motor Setup Guide
